For many years, I took this for granted. God was always there to hear my prayers, right? If I took the time, He would be waiting for my list of needs and wants. But if you think about it, we’re talking about the Almighty ONE who flung the galaxies into place with but a word! The creator of all things, the King over all, Yahweh, Elohim.

How do we as mere human creatures have the audacity to think we could possibly have any kind of fellowship with this One? He who is so transcendent, so utterly holy that to look upon His face would mean instant death to our physical bodies?

Yet, this is the desire of God - fellowship with mankind. This fellowship is deep intimacy, Heart to heart, Spirit to spirit.

There is one key word in the Hebrew that was used to describe deep intimacy. This word is used by God to speak of the fellowship that He seeks with us.

Prov 3:32 says that He is intimate with the upright.

Job 29:4 Job spoke of the friendship of God over his tent
Jer 23:22 God proclaims that if the prophets had stood in His council, they would have known His words and would have turned the people from their evil ways.
Psa 25:14 says the secret of Yahweh is for those who fear Him.

This word in Hebrew - SOD - is translated as the intimacy, friendship, private council and secret of God.

In the Greek, the word koinonia is used to speak of intimate fellowship and communion. The apostles had experienced this intimate fellowship with Jesus and they tell us that we too can walk in this intimacy with God.

I Jn 1:13 tells us that our Fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ.

I Cor 1:9 says that we are called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ.
Paul prays for believers in 2 Cor 13:14 that the grace of Jesus, the love of the Father and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all.

When God created Adam and Eve, they experienced great intimacy with Him in the garden. He didn’t create mankind as an experiment so He could stand at a distance and observe or to simply forget about us and let evolution take its course. He created us to have fellowship with Him. He designed us to be satisfied in His presence alone. He made us to dine with Him, to talk with Him, to share the deep stirrings of His heart!

This is THE PURPOSE of your life! To walk in intimate friendship with God - the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit!
